I have lived in Dallas my whole life, and I can truly say I am in love with this city (except maybe during the months of July-August). But I will admit I often dream of living in a “cool” city- LA, San Diego, really anywhere in Southern California where I could see the ocean (And no Houstonians, Galveston does not count) and day-drink on a patio all year long. I know that the grass is not always greener on the other side, but I think the lure of California is that it seems to always have exciting things going on. At least that’s what Instagram tells me.
Now don’t get me wrong. Texas will always my true love, and I hate feeling like I’m cheating on her with my California dreamin’. So I love nothing more than when creative, trendy events pop up in Dallas and make me fall in love with my city all over again.
Two weekends ago, I attended Flea Style on a whim after a last minute invite from one of my besties Brittany. All I can say is their fall show is already penciled in on my planner.
This not-your-typical flea market hosts a variety of vendors- everything from clothing designers with pimped out air-streams to hand-crafted tents for toddlers. I literally told my friend that being there was giving me baby fever because I needed a reason to buy baby headbands and bloomers. And then I saw the wine and mimosa bar…
Anyways, I love supporting small, local Texas vendors in the same way I love you all supporting my small blog. So I’m highlighting my top few that you should check out too.
I’m always looking for cute game-day attire. Maroon is a tricky shade to find- it’s either too close to crimson or too close to purple. Thankfully, the gals at Sweet Tees Shop have my back. I chatted with the the faces of the company, Jen and Brandie, about their vision for starting Sweet Tees.
“We are just 2 moms
that wanted to make simple, fun tees for our kids. We are both nurses and wanted to do something fun and creative for ourselves… We had so many requests for adult tees that we added them shortly after we opened the shop. We wanted Sweet Tees to be a shop where both adults and kids could find fun, everyday tees that reflect our personal style.”
Because my style centers around yoga pants, t shirts, and New Balance (and not because I had just worked out), I am including my wish list– in case my husband reads this: Texas Forever Tee , YALL Tee , and pictured: TX V-neck Tee in maroon, size medium ( I like tees to fit a tad big, so I ordered one size up.).
This company combines a true Texas two loves: beer and witty tees. I could barely make my way inside the tent because it was SO FREAKIN’ CROWDED. Great for the company, unfortunate for a fun-sized human. So when I went home, I did a little online retail therapy to make sure I got the full picture of everything HOG had to offer. And what do I love most about HOG? The fact that its products are “his and hers”.
Jake McKnight, founder of HOG, couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly to work with and displayed such enthusiasm when talking about his baby.
“I was sitting in a local growler filling station and noticed all their growlers had their brand name on them. So, tha
t got my mind to rolling, why not give individuals… a growler that’s fun, creative, unique so when they walk up to the bar and set their growler down, it’s something they are proud of! Whether someone purchases our growlers, t-shirts, or visits one of our soon to be open growler filling stations… we treat people like we want to be treated, like champions!”
I’m happy to know that someone other than myself thinks of me as a champion 😉 I’ve linked a few of my favs that would be a great anniversary gift, Father’s Day gift, or just a #treatyoself gift because let’s face it, being a champion is hard work.
Collegiate Series Growlers (I’m obviously partial to the A&M one), Texas Series Growlers (perfect for our annual Texas Independence Day weekend), and every one of their t-shirts because I couldn’t pick just one. Pictured: my Namaste tank is not in stock online, so I linked a similar tank.
Keep checking the blog for future features on other local gems! Until next time…
P.S. Houston friends, Flea Style will be coming YOUR way on May 7th at Silver Street Studios. Click here for more info.
